The Never Ending Process

October 19, 2010 in Artist, Design, Skin Care

As an artist, the processes I use to create products are ever-evolving.  To be completely and truly happy with a product seems like somewhat of a death nell for me.  At the age of 16 I started experimenting with home made skin care because I am so very sensitive to so many of the products on the market today. That exploration is still continuing now as I constantly revamp the soap recipes we offer at S Type Creative.  The new all natural Hemp Oil Soap is something I’ve toyed with for a while and finally am delighted with.  As a result, we are launching our new line of Hemp Oil Soap soon and will follow with a new, more emollient formula for our much loved Shea Butter soap.

Hemp Oil is one of the most nutritionally dense oils known to science and has been used externally for centuries to balance sensitive skin.  The essential fatty acids that occur naturally in Hemp Oil are said to have anti-inflammatory properties and leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth but not greasy.

The new soaps will launch at the beginning of November.  In the meantime, let us know if there is a favorite fragrance you would like to reserve as we are finalizing all the details!

The first fragrances will be Patchouli Orange, Green Apple, French Lavender, and Cedarwood Sweet Orange with many more fragrances to come and hundreds available by special order.  The soap will also be available in an unscented bar.

Each Hemp Oil Soap will be a 6oz bar that is 3″ x 3″ x 1.25″ and wrapped in our original, artistic packaging for $6.95.

“Hand over the chocolate and no one gets hurt”

How many times have you had this thought?

Home made fudge by artist & chef Scott Baker is arriving fresh weekly.  This week’s treat is a 1/4 lb fudge cube wrapped in gold foil, delicately placed in a clear box then artfully wrapped with combinations of specialty papers.  For $2.50 you can afford one for you and one for a friend. [see photo below]  These artful fudge squares are limited to the stock on hand and will keep until Christmas in the refrigerator or freezer.  Without refrigeration they will last 2-3 weeks. Trying to avoid the sweets?  Skip the calories and pamper yourself in fudge suds instead or if you’re like me, overindulgent, go for both.

I just finished my fourth batch in as many weeks of Fudge soap [top photo].  While it doesn’t taste too great, it smells like warm fudge in the shower and looks like a block of chocolate sitting in the soap dish.  Nearly too decadent to use, the antioxidants in dark dutched cocoa combine with emollient shea butter to create a skin softening bathing experience like no other.

All natural ingredients combine to create a refreshing soap that is long lasting and gentle enough for sensitive skin. The perfect gift for yourself or a loved one this holiday season.

fudge lip balm

Fudge Lip Balm is another all natural indulgence too delectable to pass up.  Super emollient lip balm is infused with dark dutched cocoa for a lick-your-lips-all-day experience.  The cocoa gives a subtle tint to your lips and smells amazing!  The perfect lip balm for chocolate lovers.  S Type Creative lip balm is moisturizing without being greasy and lasts a long time while not feeling waxy.  Wear it alone or with your favorite lip liner.  $2.95 [quickshop:Fudge Lip Balm:price:2.95:shipping:2.00:shipping2:0:end]

fudge candle

Put the icing on the cake with a decadent fudge brownie candle.  Pure soy wax is heavily fragranced and hand poured into glass votive holders which are then adorned with specialty papers reminiscent of the scent of chocolate.  Once lit, this lovely little candle will make your space redolent with the scent of freshly baked brownies.

anemone rings

And finally, a current favorite of mine, the anemone glass beaded rings from India.  It’s rare that I purchase something for the gallery that isn’t made by a local artist, but these were just begging me to take them home from the gem show.  Entirely handmade with glass beads, these beautiful adornments will make a certain statement.  The band is woven with elastic thread so they should fit most sizes. There is only one available in each color so snap them up quick!

Soft Lips and Scented Showers

Lip Balm Assortment

As a bonafide Lip Balm junkie, I have to say, I no longer lust after the lip balms at the cosmetics counter, in line at the grocery, or when I see someone sliding emollient goodness across their lips.

I’ll have to admit though, I have pretty high expectations from a lip balm.  It can’t dissolve my lip color.  It can’t be greasy.  It can’t drag across my lips as I apply it.  I certainly don’t want a lip balm that I keep smelling throughout the day, but on the other hand, it should smell good when I apply it.  I want it to last for hours, but I don’t want to feel it sitting on my lips either.

Finally, after years of trial and error in my studio kitchen, I’ve found what is, to me, the perfect lip balm.  It moisturizes.  It smells good.  It lasts for hours.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

To purchase individual lip balms, go to the Skin Care > Lip Balm section.  Each .15 oz lip balm is made to order for $2.95.

After creating new lip balms, I thought that there was NO way my Shea Butter soap recipe was going to escape modification.  I’ve now completely changed the recipe for that as well, making it all natural and removing the silk protein for no reason other than, well, vegans prefer it that way and I know a lot of vegans.

As it turns out, this new soap formula is even more moisturizing than before and has the added benefit of no artificial ingredients!

The heavily fragranced soaps make every shower a delight as the bathroom fills with the scent of my favorite fragrances.  I’ve even added a few aromatherapy blends to help with my ever-present sinus and allergy issues.  (Gotta love living in a swamp.)

Purchase soap.
